The “Bio” in SQT Bio Microneedling refers to the use of spongilla spicules derived from sea sponges.
How does SQT Bio Microneedling work?
The treatment uses no devices and doesn’t break the skin’s barrier. It uses spongilla spicules which are implanted into the top layer of the skin to create micro-channels. These channels help improve the absorption of the active serum in which the spicules are suspended in. This combination of micro-channels and serum infusion boosts skin renewal.

The treatment is safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, however you can seek medical advice if you are unsure.
What should I do before the treatment (preparation)?
To ensure the best results and avoid complications, proper preparation is essential:
- Avoid Tanning: Limit sun exposure for at least 1-2 weeks before your treatment. Sunburned skin is not suitable for SQT bio microneedling.
- Stop Using Retinoids and acids: Discontinue the use of retinoids (retinol or other vitamin A derivatives) and acid exfoliants for at least 1 week before the treatment to prevent skin irritation.
- Avoid Botox and fillers for 2 weeks before your treatment.
- Avoid going to the sauna before your session.
- Clean Your Skin: Arrive with clean, make-up free skin.
- If you have an active cold sore, make sure they are fully healed before having the appointment.
- Consultation: Schedule a consultation with your practitioner to ensure you’re a suitable candidate for SQT bio microneedling and discuss any concerns or expectations.
What can I expect during the treatment?
- Implantation of bio microneedles: During the procedure, no devices are used. The spongilla spicules are implanted using a gentle massage over the skin.
- The procedure feels similar to a scrub being used on the skin.
- After the treatment you may feel warmth in your skin and this is expected.
- A soothing mask is applied to cool the skin.
What should I expect immediately after the treatment?
Heat: It’s normal to experience heat and some redness after the treatment.
Prickly sensation: You may feel a prickly sensation if you touch your skin. Try to avoid touching your skin to avoid spicule transfer.
How many treatments are required?
The number of treatments varies depending on your skin concerns and goals. Typically, a series of 3-6 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart is recommended for optimal results.
When will I see results?
Initial results can be seen 1 to 2 weeks after the treatment. We offer a follow up session of LED and Enzyme Peel treatment to ensure any flaking is removed and to boost skin healing.
Is SQT Bio Microneedling painful?
Most people find SQT Bio Microneedling to be comfortable due to the treatment not using any machines or devices. You may experience a heat sensation and pricking after the treatment, but this usually subsides by the next day.
